Holy Name Society
The mission of the Holy Name Society (HNS) is to combine the ideals of Spiritual Growth, Charitable Works, Fund Raising and Entertainment in a way that brings the men of St. Barbara’s Parish together.
Membership:
There is no initiation to the Holy Name and all men of St Barbara are invited to attend monthly meetings and the special events held through the year.
Meetings:
Held once a month on the first Tuesday of the month in the Sterling Event Center.
6:30 PM casual dinner and refreshments are provided. Meeting starts at about 7 PM and concludes by 8 PM.
Fund Raising Activities
- Turkey shoots on three Saturdays in the fall.
- Fish Frys every Friday during Lent.
Support for Church Needs and Activities
- Purchases all Sacramental wine and communion hosts for St Barbara Church.
- Sponsors the printing of the annual church calendars, available to all parishioners.
- Provides $2500 to the St Barbara Youth Group annually for Mission trips and the March for Life in Washington DC.
- Assists with setup and running of the parish festival.
- Assists the Spare Time Parishioners (STP) on the first Friday of each month with parish campus projects.
- Coordinates the Spring and Fall Grounds Cleanup.
Support for Charities
- Donates $500 to each of 15-17 local, national and international charities every Christmas.
These charities are nominated by and voted on by Holy Name members. - Helps to feed the homeless by purchasing food and distributing dinners on several dates throughout the year at the Emergency Shelter in Covington.
Social Activities: open to all men of the parish. Guests are welcome.
- Keeneland Bus Trip during the spring.
- Summer Picnic (offsite on first Friday in August) All food, snacks and drinks are provided.
- Christmas party (church hall on first Friday in December) All food and drink are provided.
